Humility- Part 1

So, obviously it’s been awhile since I’ve blogged about anything. This is due in part mostly because I’ve been kind of in a mental “rut” you could say. But I’ve finally refocused myself and feel that I can once again share my vast amount of wisdom and profound thoughts with the world (YEAH RIGHT!)

This entry is entitled Humility – Part 1, because I am currently reading a book called… you guest it, Humility: True Greatness by C. J. Mahaney. Phillip (youth pastor/boss man) gave the Northwood Student Ministry Staff this book to read as our quarterly staff read and I am embarrassed to say that I am just now starting it. But wow! is it rockin’ my world right now!! I thought I would just take a few minutes sharing what I have already taken from this awesome book.

For starters…. Nothing escapes God’s notice and He aware of ALL things, “God is decisively drawn to humility. The person who is humble is the one who draws God’s attention, and in this sense, drawing His attention means also attracting His grace – His unmerited kindness.” So maybe right now your saying… duh Brian, that’s text book bible knowledge, but allow me to continue…. “Humility is honestly assessing ourselves in light of God’s holiness and our sinfulness.” So with this in mind, C. J. asks some questions.. “When it comes to the values we live by, what will others say about us one day? Will they testify that humility characterized our lives?”

Now if i was to assess myself, I would probably say that I am pretty humble (oxymoron!! HA HA) But when I think about my actions at times (even unintentional jokes and actions) I would say that I probably at times don’t portray a humble spirit enough.

This is a hard thing to admit, but God’s working in me.. It’s not that I truly believe that I am God’s gift to the world, but I jokingly will make cocky remarks, which to someone who doesn’t know me, would think I was an arrogant jerk.. But anyways… moving on!

This was the last quote I pulled from the first chapter which is a great place to end this entry.. “Our motivation for rooting out pride must go beyond a knowledge of its pitfalls and perils. Our pursuit should be driven by the amazing promise that humility holds out to us: God gives grace to the humble!! In all your ventures, are you aware of your need for God’s grace to give your efforts lasting value?”

This is book is really helping me evaluate how I believe others see me. As I continue reading this book, I’ll continue to add little epiphanies I acquire and post them so that you too can be enlightened! God bless and stay HUMBLE!!!!
